“As we watched the sunset at last over the shimmering waves of Ushimado, we lost all sense of time and place. Were we travelers along the beautiful Setouchi Sea? Or Mediterranean island hoppers watching the sun sink into the Aegean? Either way—there in that moment, we felt perfectly at home.”

The Inside Scoop
Of all the places we covered during this huge 80 article project (of which 20 were mine), Limani remains one of my personal favorites.
Sophisticated, gorgeous, and unpretentious. Even despite its “luxury hotel” billing.
Sitting in the Ushimado, a place known as the “Agean of Japan,” Limani’s Santorini theme makes perfect sense. And to their credit, they let the natural beauty of the location do the heavy lifting.
Sparkling sea views, award-winning sunsets, and incredible local olives, mushrooms, and lemons. Yum.
Speaking of which, the food at Limani, cooked up by a genuine, imported Greek chef, blew us away. They pull as much of the ingredients as possible from their own nearby gardens. And because they don’t front on their “international” claims, they didn’t bat a lash at my request for veggie fare.
Über-delicious veggie fare, I might add.
Every luxury hotel claims to be a magical getaway, and more than a few hype their “international” character. But Limani actually delivered on those promises without going out of its way to raise a ruckus.
The photos involved exposure blending in a few instances to capture the glorious, light-filled, ocean views shimmering out the windows. Selective sharpening and vignetting also played a key role in highlighting key pats of each scene.
Another cool thing about Limani is that it’s basically in the middle of nowhere. We walked up the hill overlooking the hotel and bay for one of the shots, and in the process discovered — and wiled away a couple hours in — an olive grove that was just chilling up there. Really helped hammer home that Greek vibe, LOL!
My Favorite Part
The food. No, the view. Wait, the food. Um… The fiooewd?
