Sagan Art – Traditional Website, Photography, and Business Card

Miyuki-san is of a generation that doesn’t always jam with cutting edge technology, and she vastly preferred something simple that would require no puttering about with. So I hand coded a simple — yet fully responsive — one page design featuring photos of her work, links to her Instagram, and contact information.

Client: Sagan Art comprises the jewelry, accessories, and mandalas of Miyuki Nishimura.

Project Description: Create business cards and a simple website to showcase Miyuki’s work.

The Inside Scoop

Miyuki-san asked me if I could photograph some of her work and help make a set of business cards. The idea for a basic “online business card” type website naturally joined the project as we discussed details.

Miyuki-san is of a generation that doesn’t always jam with cutting edge technology, and she vastly preferred something simple that would require no puttering about with. So I hand coded a simple — yet fully responsive — one page design featuring photos of her work, links to her Instagram, and contact information. She provided the text in Japanese.

I used jQuery for the lightbox effect, and did the rest in HTML and CSS with a smattering of Javascript in one or two places.

For the cards, Miyuki-san wanted to showcase both her jewelry and Mandalas. Due to the significant differences between these art forms we settled on a double-sided design.

For the photographs, I used exposure blending to capture the full detail of each piece and to manage the reflective highlights of the metals and gemstones.
